Topics Covered in This Course:
  Section 1
     The Science Of Biology
Overview: In this topic explore how biology classifies and describes organisms, their functions, how species
come into existence, and the interactions they have with each other.
The Chemistry of Life, the Biosphere, Ecosystems and Communities
Overview: In this topic explore homeostasis, organization, metabolism, growth, adaptation, response to stimuli and reproduction. The biosphere is the part of the earth including air, land, surface rocks, and water, within which life occurs. An ecosystem is a natural unit consisting of all plants, animals and micro-organisms.
Populations, Humans in the Biosphere, Cell Structure and Function
Overview: In this topic explore how the world's population, on its current growth trajectory, is expected to reach nearly 9 billion by the year 2042. Biosphere reserve is an international conservation designation given by UNESCO under its Program on Man and the Biosphere (MAB). The cell is the structural and functional unit of all known living organisms being the smallest unit of an organism that is classified as living.
  Section 2
Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration, Cell Growth and Division, Introduction
to Genetics
Overview: In this topic explore how photosynthesis is a series of enzyme-catalyzed steps for the conversion of light energy into chemical energy by living organisms. Cellular respiration describes the metabolic reactions and processes that take place in a cell or across the cell membrane. The cell growth is shorthand for the idea of "growth in cell populations by means of cell reproduction." The living organisms inherit many of the features of their ancestors.
DNA and RNA, the Human Genome, Genetic Engineering, Darwin's Theory of Evolution
Overview: In this topic explore how Ribonucleic acid (RNA) is a nucleic acid and Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a nucleic acid and how genetic engineering, recombinant DNA technology, genetic modification/manipulation (GM) and gene splicing are terms that apply to the direct manipulation of an organism. Human genome is the genome of homo sapiens, which is stored on 23 chromosome pairs. Evolution is the process of change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms from one generation to the next.
  Section 3
     Evolution Of Populations
Overview: In this topic explore how evolution is a generation-to-generation change in the frequencies of alleles within a population that shares a common gene pool.
The History of Life, Classification, Bacteria and Viruses, Protists
Overview: In this topic explore how the life history of an organism is sometimes used to refer to the reproductive cycle of animals and plants. Biological classification is a method by which biologists group and categorize species of organisms. Avirus is a sub-microscopic infectious agent that is unable to grow or reproduce outside a host cell. Protists is a diverse group of eukaryotic microorganisms.
Fungi, Plant Diversity, Roots, Stems, and Leaves
Overview: In this topic learn about fungi is a eukaryotic organism that is a member of the kingdom Fungi. Plant Diversity is the flowering plants or angiosperms are the most widespread group of land plants. A stem is one of two main structural axes of a vascular plant and the other main structural axis of plants - the root.
  Section 4
     Reproduction Of Seed Plants
Overview: In this topic explore how plant sexuality covers the wide variety of sexual reproduction systems found across the plant kingdom.
     Plant Responses And Adaptations
Overview: In this topic explore how photoperiodicity is the physiological reaction of organisms to the length of day or night that occurs in plants and animals.
     Sponges And Cnidarians
Overview: In this topic learn about sponges and cnidarians - found exclusively in aquatic, mostly marine,
environments.
     Worms And Mollusks
Overview: In this topic learn about the distribution and habitat of worms and mollusks.
     Arthropods And Echinoderms
Overview: In this topic explore how Arthropods are animals belonging to the Phylum Arthropods (and include the insects, arachnids, crustaceans and others.
     Comparing Invertebrates
Overview: In this topic compare various worms like Annelida segmented worms, Arthropoda insects, arachnids, etc.
     Nonvertebrate Chordates, Fishes, And Amphibians
Overview: In this topic learn about reptiles and birds in regard to evolution and their systems.
     Reptiles And Birds
Overview: In this topic learn about Reptiles and Birds in regards to evolution and their systems.
  Section 5
     Mammals
Overview: In this topic understand mammals - a class of vertebrate animals characterized by the presence of sweat glands, etc.
     Comparing Chordates
Overview: In this topic understand chordates - a group of animals that includes the vertebrates, together with several closely related invertebrates.
     Animal Behavior
Overview: In this topic understand animal behavior in regard to ethology - the scientific study of animal behavior, and a branch of zoology.
     Nervous System
Overview: In this topic understand the nervous system - a highly specialized network whose principal components are nerves called neurons.
     Skeletal, Muscular, And Integumentary Systems
Overview: In this topic understand skeletal, muscular, and integumentary systems the anatomical of species that allows them to move.
     Circulatory And Respiratory Systems
Overview: In this topic learn about circulatory and respiratory systems - an organ system that moves nutrients, gases, and wastes to and from cells.
     Digestive And Excretory Systems
Overview: In this topic learn about digestive and excretory systems - the breaking down of food in the body into a form that can be absorbed and used or excreted.
     Endocrine And Reproductive Systems
Overview: In this topic learn about endocrine and reproductive systems in terms of function, types of signaling and role in disease.
     The Immune System And Disease
Overview: In this topic understand the immune system and disease - a collection of mechanisms within an
organism.
